Teaching Artists Victor Cockburn and Judith Steinbergh founded Troubadour, Inc. in 1981. In 1983, Troubadour incorporated as a nonprofit, tax-exempt, arts education organization. Our programs and activities include School Partnerships, Writers� Residencies and Professional Development Workshops; creating and publishing multicultural curricula to support literacy and the arts in the classroom; research into how the literary and musical arts affect children�s learning; and mentoring emerging Teaching Artists.

Served more than 175,000 teachers and students in more than 50 Massachusetts school districts since 1981.

Contributed to increases of up to 22 percentage points over three years in MCAS scores on English Language Arts exams.

Been selected as a Creative Teaching Partner by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and as a member of Hunt Alternatives Fund's ARTWorks for Kids Coalition and Massachusetts Advocates for the Arts, Sciences and Humanities.

Received Parents' Choice Awards for our CD curriculum resources Where I Come From: Songs and Poems from Many Cultures and Get Ready for Boston: Songs, Poems and Stories about Boston and Its Neighborhoods.

Composed and produced audio recordings of curriculum materials in English, Spanish and other languages for Major Educational Publishers, such as Scholastic, MacMillan, Hampton-Brown, Jostens Learning, Harcourt-Brace, Silver Burdett Ginn and Curriculum Associates.
