Troubadour's visiting writers structure all of their sessions and programs to align with the Massachusetts English/Language Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
Under the Language Strand, students will
- question, listen and contribute to a class discussion,
- present their ideas and original writing orally,
- acquire and understand new vocabulary, English conventions and syntax,
- be able to distinguish between formal and informal English.
Under the Reading and Literature Strand, students will
- identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the themes, structure, and elements of poetry and song lyrics, and provide evidence from the text to support their understanding,
- identify and analyze how an author's words appeal to the senses, create imagery, suggest mood and set tone, providing evidence from the text, and
- plan and present readings, and performances that consider the audience and purpose.
Under the Composition Strand, students will
- write with clear focus, coherent organization and sufficient detail,
- demonstrate an improvement in organization, content, detail, style, tone and word choice,
- use knowledge of standard English conventions in writing, revising, and editing, and
- reflect on their own process of writing.
Troubadour writers also cover some Arts and Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks by integrating themes from these units into reading and writing exercises.
