Curriculum Frameworks

Troubadour's visiting writers structure all of their sessions and programs to align with the Massachusetts English/Language Arts Curriculum Frameworks.

Under the Language Strand, students will

  • question, listen and contribute to a class discussion,
  • present their ideas and original writing orally,
  • acquire and understand new vocabulary, English conventions and syntax,
  • be able to distinguish between formal and informal English.

Under the Reading and Literature Strand, students will

  • identify, analyze, and apply knowledge of the themes, structure, and elements of poetry and song lyrics, and provide evidence from the text to support their understanding,
  • identify and analyze how an author's words appeal to the senses, create imagery, suggest mood and set tone, providing evidence from the text, and
  • plan and present readings, and performances that consider the audience and purpose.

Under the Composition Strand, students will

  • write with clear focus, coherent organization and sufficient detail,
  • demonstrate an improvement in organization, content, detail, style, tone and word choice,
  • use knowledge of standard English conventions in writing, revising, and editing, and
  • reflect on their own process of writing.

Troubadour writers also cover some Arts and Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks by integrating themes from these units into reading and writing exercises.
